Spectrum Geophysics are looking for a Geophysicist with a minimum of 3 years’ experience to join their team based in Lymington, UK.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be required to perform a variety of roles within the organisation and be prepared to travel and work offshore and away from home on a regular basis.

Supported by our experienced team, the duties and responsibilities associated with this position include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Acquisition, quality checking, processing and interpretation of geophysical survey data from a wide variety of systems including sub-bottom profiler, magnetometer, side scan sonar and multibeam bathymetry echosounder systems.
  • Assisting with report writing
  • Assisting with survey planning, vessel mobilisations and project management where required
  • Calibrate and maintain survey equipment
  • Technical report writing & charting
  • Production and checking of final deliverables
  • Assist with the development of new procedures for tasks including survey operations, data processing and data management
  • Research new technologies & techniques to keep Spectrum on the cutting edge

Essential experience & skills:

  • Experience working in the offshore survey industry
  • Experience working on nearshore marine survey projects
  • Strong experience with industry software including Oasis Montaj, SonarWiz, RadExPro & Kingdom Suite.
  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Geophysics or close-related subject
  • High attention to detail and able to work efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Full, valid UK driving licence
  • Excellent computer literacy, including a high level of competence in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Willing to work in the offshore marine environment and away from home for periods up to 4 weeks
  • Ability to work in a team but also take initiative and work unsupervised when required
  • High level of practical skill, including involvement in project set-up and vessel mobilisations. 
Desirable experience & skills:

  • Experience working on offshore renewable energy survey projects
  • Strong programming/scripting knowledge e.g. Python, Visual Basic etc.
  • GIS knowledge and experience of GIS software
  • An understanding of the importance of data management;
  • Experience and confidence in liaising with clients.
  • Offshore certification
The successful candidate shall be required to start work as soon as possible upon successful completion of an OGUK offshore medical assessment.
