JAGO's role is to provide deployed geographic support, both in overseas theatres of operation and
within the UK. This Geographic Support covers a wide range of areas, including:

• provision of geographic advice
• acquisition and creation of data
• management of geographic data
• terrain analysis
• geographic information presentation
• geographic information production
• geographic information dissemination
• geographic system support

The talk will examine Royal Engineer Military Geographic support to UK forces deployed on
operations today and how this support has developed over the last 20 years. It focuses on the
work and challenges encountered when deployed in regions of conflict but also covers the linkages
with Defence Geographic Centre, Ordnance Survey and the Royal School of Military Survey.
Colonel John Kedar joined the Army in 1984. His younger days included tours in Belize, training
officer for the Sultan of Oman's Engineer Regiment and a joint operations appointment in
Headquarters British Forces Cyprus. He passed the Army Survey Course in 1992 and since has
had a range of appointments which have included command of 42 Engineer (Regiment) and
operational deployments to Bosnia, Iraq, the Gulf and Afghanistan, the latter in 2007.
