UTEC mobilises for large geotechnical contract

Mini CPT

UTEC has mobilised a 100m vessel for one of the largest geotechnical contracts awarded in the last 4 years. The 4-month contract, which commenced early July, is utilising proven mini cone penetration test (CPT) technology coupled with new towed resistivity systems, designed and built specifically for this and future route surveys. Under this contract, UTEC will undertake CPT and resistivity down to 1000 metres over 11,000km of the undersea fibre optic telecommunications cable route, from the Mediterranean to South East Asia. The burial assessment survey (BAS) will be reported on in ‘near real time’ with data combined with geophysical survey data sets within days of acquisition through UTEC’s HQ in Lowestoft, UK.

Nutec mobilise to install marine outfall in Ghana

MV Goosander

Nutec West Africa Ltd and their UK partners UTEC have secured a contract to install a 2km outfall pipe as part of the Kolre Lagoon Ecological Restoration Project, Ghana.

The 4-month project commencing in mid September 2004, will call on all of the groups core disciplines, diving, construction and IRM, survey and marine project management. MV Goosander, permanently stationed in Sekondi Ghana, will be key to this project, providing a base for the installation of over 500, 5-tonne concrete weights through to final pipeline installation.

MV Goosander is permanently mobilised with complete, dive, survey, geotechnical sampling and ROV systems - from 1000m rated ROVs through to IMCA accredited dive suites to towed survey arrays, drop and vibrocore and 25kn CPT.

UTEC recruit to service expanding contract portfolio

Simon Richardson, UTEC Operations Manager

Simon Richardson has joined UTEC as Operations Manager. Simon, with over 30 years in the survey industry will operate from the Suffolk office and be tasked with the running of the current UTEC fleet - Tridens 1, Goosander, Strilbas and a 100m Geotechnical vessel, all of which are engaged in contracts for the foreseeable future. The appointment of Simon, will free up UTEC’s Resources Manger, Olivia Place, to develop associations and operational bases in Aberdeen and the Middle East.

UTEC currently have 52 field personnel, in 6 countries actively engaged in marine survey contracts, backed by 20 strong office based personnel.
